COURSE OVERVIEW


Attitudes towards driving can directly impact risk tolerance in corporate drivers and others. Factors such as stress, personal issues, and the behaviors of other drivers are significant influences. The Defensive Driving Attitudes course is designed to help drivers comprehend and control these elements to preserve rational and objective decision-making abilities while on the road, and to prevent impulsive, discourteous, retaliatory, or other risky behaviors that could result in incidents or complaints. This training significantly reduces the likelihood of incidents or accidents by encouraging drivers to reduce speed, obey traffic laws, and show courtesy to other road users.

The Defensive Driving Attitudes course, designed by Thinking Driver, emphasizes the importance of Driver Attitude. It educates employees about the personal factors that influence risk tolerance. This course will explain how the Five Fundamentals of Defensive Driving can reduce risk and prevent vehicle incidents.

Understanding Triggers

Managing Driving Stress

  • Types and sources of driving stress
  • How stress affects drivers mentally, emotionally, and physically to promote risk taking behaviour
  • What drivers can do to reduce or manage stress and their reaction to it

Anger

  • How anger, the most dangerous emotion when mixed with driving can result from unmanaged stress and frustration or from triggers resulting from other driver actions
  • Understanding two kinds of anger that can result in reactionary or risk-taking driving actions
  • Simple and effective anger management tools that can be used while driving
  • How to avoid personal confrontations and road rage incidents

Aggressive Driving

  • Understanding the nature of aggressive driving
  • Recognizing aggressive driving behaviours and how anyone can turn into an aggressive driver if stressed or provoked
  • Identifying how aggressive driving consumes excessive fuel and wears vehicles prematurely
  • How to reduce risky driving actions which could cause incidents
  • Reducing vehicle abuse, fuel, and repair costs

Emotional IQ

  • How willingness to take responsibility for resolving even bad situations in a positive way can reduce stress and empower drivers
  • How unrealistic expectations of others leads to disappointment, stress, and escalated risk tolerance

PASS MARK


Testing carried out throughout this online Defensive Driving Attitudes course is aimed at reinforcing the information presented. To receive a certificate of completion, a mark of 80% must be achieved. Participants have the option to retake the course twice if they do not achieve the pass mark.
