The online course on the Basics of Cargo Securement aims to impart the essential knowledge and skills required for securing cargo as per the North American Cargo Securement Standard (National Safety Code – Standard 10).
The National Safety Code – Standard 10, also known as the North American Cargo Securement Standard, has been established to mitigate the risks associated with improper cargo securement. The Cargo Securement course is designed to provide comprehensive training to ensure proper and secure cargo placement, which maintains vehicle stability and avoids cargo displacement. The course encompasses all vital information related to the North American Cargo Securement Standard.
This Basic course on Cargo Securement includes the following topics:
- The establishment and upkeep of the North American Cargo Securement Standard
- Various securement devices
- General performance benchmarks
- Inspection of cargo
- Requirements for cargo securement
- Exceptions to the standard, with optional modules for:
- Logs
- Processed timber
- Metallic coils
- Paper rolls
- Concrete pipes
- Intermodal containers
- Vehicles as cargo
- Roll-on, roll-off, and hook lift containers
- Large rocks
Around 90 minutes
To successfully complete this Cargo Securement course, the learner must score at least 80% in each chapter and the final exam. Each chapter can be retaken as many times as required to meet the pass mark. The final exam can be attempted thrice.
On successfully completing this online course, a certificate of completion can be downloaded and printed. Note that in certain jurisdictions, an additional practical evaluation on equipment might be necessary for regulatory compliance.
