The occurrence of occupational maladies and injuries is often due to the presence of risks in the workplace. In order to ascertain whether these risks can be mitigated or the threat to employees minimized, the employer is required to evaluate the degree of danger associated with these risks, prioritize them, and implement controls based on their priority.
Occupational maladies and injuries occur when employees are exposed to risks in their workplaces. By eliminating or controlling exposure to these risks, it is logical to conclude that employees will not suffer from work-related maladies and injuries. If the risk cannot be completely eradicated, the employer is obliged to take every feasible step to lessen the degree of danger faced by employees to the minimum possible level. In the "BCMSA Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment" course, the employer learns to assess and prioritize the degree of danger posed by these risks, and establish controls based on their priority.
