COURSE OVERVIEW


The BC Safe Driving online course is an extensive defensive driving plan that aims to impart responsible driving methodologies and to assist drivers of varying experience levels to enhance their driving skills. This course extensively covers traffic rules, along with the responsibilities of drivers.

The curriculum for this course has been designed in collaboration with law enforcement officers, driving trainers, traffic engineers, psychologists, professional drivers, and driving law specialists. The curriculum is specifically tailored to challenge and change the mindset poor drivers employ to rationalize their driving actions.

To ensure engagement with the course material, exam questions are scattered throughout the course. The test consists of at least 50 unique questions for every student, with a passing mark of 70%. If the passing grade is not achieved on the first try, participants have the opportunity to retake the BC Safe Driving course twice. This course is fully online and takes about 3.5 hours to complete. Strict procedures are followed to ensure adherence to the course regulations.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion.

The BC Safe Driving course has three key objectives: 

  1. To aid in the reformation and re-education of drivers who display unsafe driving tendencies. Motorists who regularly break traffic laws present a considerable risk to public safety. The course content aims to rectify these harmful attitudes by pinpointing and debunking the flawed logic often used to justify poor driving habits. The defensive driving perspectives are elaborated on to provide the participant with a more profound comprehension of the need to alter their driving behavior.
  2. To help beginner drivers or those with low confidence to better grasp the road rules, understand their vehicle, and their role as a motorist. The course content uses examples from typical driving scenarios as well as emergency situations.
  3. To make sure employees comprehend their responsibilities as drivers. For employers, it is crucial that employees who drive for work purposes, or in company vehicles, have a thorough understanding of traffic rules, the necessity to drive in a safe, law-abiding manner, and the importance of considerate driving.
