This course aims to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to gauge the severity of an injury or illness, know when to contact emergency medical services, make well-informed decisions when helping victims with minor injuries, and offer the necessary care for those with severe injuries while awaiting the arrival of EMS.
The "Basic First Aid" course will guide you through the process of evaluating the severity of an injury or illness, understanding when to reach out to emergency medical services, deciding the best course of action when aiding victims with minor injuries, and providing suitable care for those with serious injuries while waiting for EMS to arrive.
1. Understand your role during an incident or injury.
2. Recognize signs of respiratory distress, heart attack, and cardiac arrest and how to respond.
3. Learn how to react appropriately to bleeding, puncture wounds, and burns.
4. Become familiar with correct first aid responses to musculoskeletal injuries, including those to the head, neck, and spine.
5. Identify symptoms of, and suitable first aid responses to a range of medical emergencies, such as diabetic emergencies, strokes, fainting, seizures, heat stress and cold stress.
This course will take around 40 minutes to complete.
There are tests included throughout this online course aimed at reinforcing the information presented. To receive a certificate of completion, a score of 80% must be achieved. Participants will be allowed to retake the course twice if the pass mark is not achieved on the first attempt.
Upon successful completion of the "Basic First Aid" course, a certificate of completion will be available for download and printing.
