Safety is a priority for everyone. No one intends to end their workday in the emergency room - even doctors don't want to be rushed there on a stretcher. However, it's easy to become overly confident and presume that nothing will go wrong just because it hasn't happened yet. It's equally easy to fall into unsafe work habits when those around us are doing the same.
COURSE OVERVIEW
Safety is a priority for everyone. No one intends to end their workday in the emergency room – even doctors don’t want to be rushed there on a stretcher. However, it’s easy to become overly confident and presume that nothing will go wrong just because it hasn’t happened yet. It’s equally easy to fall into unsafe work habits when those around us are doing the same.
This is why we created the Building a Lasting Culture of Safety video series. It’s crafted to assist you in emphasizing the importance of safety not only to your specific employees but also to their colleagues, families, and friends. Anticipating problems and behaving as though something could go wrong doesn’t mean you’re more likely to make a mistake, but it does mean you’ll be less likely to get injured if something does go wrong.
That doesn’t mean that our Building a Lasting Culture of Safety video series is dull. Although creating a safe work environment is serious, it doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun while discussing it. So we’ve filled these videos with plenty of humor to help keep you engaged. We don’t want you to die any more than you do, and it wouldn’t be a good look on us if you accidentally died of boredom.
So, prepare to be entertained by our Building a Lasting Culture of Safety series. Because at The Jeff Havens Company, we offer serious solutions with a twist of humor.
COURSE TOPICS
Upon completion of this course, you will have gained knowledge on:
How to enlighten colleagues and employees about the importance of safety, and the long-term effects of an accident or injury.
Effective ways to consistently communicate safety information to your team.
Appropriate places and methods to use safety signs, tags, tape, and other warnings.
How to identify potential hazards.
The significance of emergency planning, and how to effectively implement it.
Diverse strategies for executing successful emergency and evacuation drills.
Appropriate responses in the event of an accident.
How to manage employees who disregard safe working practices.
Approaches to address drug and/or alcohol abuse in the workplace.
This course also provides insights on the following topics:
Emphasizing the Importance of Safety
This video explains why safety should be a priority without ever stating that it’s for your own good. There’s also no tedious stuff about how a safe workplace is a productive one, and there’s even an attempted murder. That’s right – in a safety video! The point is, discussions about safety don’t have to be boring, and this video certainly isn’t.
Communicating Safety Concerns to Others
How (and how not) to share safety issues, concerns, and suggestions with your entire team is covered in this video. There might also be an apex predator, and a lazy individual will receive a subtle yet unforgettable put-down.
Effective Application of Safety Signage
Using safety signs, tapes, tags, and other warning labels is one of the simplest ways to alert your workforce to potential dangers. This video ensures you use those materials effectively. You’ll also witness the world’s scariest bathroom and learn about a new exotic disease.
Recognizing Hazards
This video focuses on preventing hazards by encouraging workers to be aware of their surroundings and any changing conditions that might create unexpected dangers. We’ve also included a bit of classic horror movie flavor, so brace yourself for some eerie violin music.
Basics of Emergency Planning
It’s better to be prepared for emergencies than to wish they never happen. This video covers the critical elements of ensuring your workforce knows what to do in an emergency. There’s also a lot of screaming and running around in this video, which is quite entertaining. You’ll even learn a new phrase to use if you’re ever on a sinking ship. So, lots of fun awaits you!
Designing an Engaging Emergency Action Drill
This video outlines how to structure an emergency drill to get everyone involved in the process. You’ll also learn about the consequences of not participating and discover the world’s best cookie. Because safety can be tasty.
Conducting an Evacuation
This video details the specific elements necessary to ensure a smooth building evacuation. You’ll learn about the importance of having an immediate response leader, finally understand why sign-in sheets are important, and witness at least one person crying for no reason. Warning – this video has small doses of absolute chaos and anarchy.
Proper Techniques for Accident Investigation
This video will demonstrate the correct way to investigate the causes of an accident. You’ll also see several incorrect ways to do this, because otherwise, this video would be as thrilling as a bowl of cold soup. There might also be next week’s winning lottery numbers in here, but we can’t guarantee that.
Handling Employees Who Refuse To Work Safely
This video discusses various reasons your employees might be engaging in unsafe working practices, along with several strategies for addressing them. Along the way, you’ll witness some incredibly foolish workplace behavior, and you’ll also learn why we should never be trusted with eggs.
Addressing Drug & Alcohol Abuse
Our final video in the Building a Lasting Culture of Safety series covers how to address the single most significant threat to workplace safety – drug and alcohol abuse. We discuss drug testing, how to promote healthy choices, and the danger of some types of muffins. Drug and alcohol abuse is a serious issue, but thankfully the video doesn’t have to be boring.
