Workplace Safety Basics: Work Practices
Workplace safety is a joint effort between employers and employees. Under the General Duty Clause (Section 5(a)(1) of the OSH Act of 1970), employers are required to provide a safe work environment. Employees also play a vital role by recognizing potential hazards, taking steps to avoid or eliminate them, and promptly reporting unsafe conditions.
Workplace safety depends on the shared responsibility of both employers and employees. According to the General Duty Clause (Section 5(a)(1) of the OSH Act of 1970), employers must ensure a safe and healthful workplace. At the same time, employees must stay alert to potential hazards, take steps to mitigate risks, and report any unsafe conditions as they arise.
This course provides a foundational understanding of safe work practices, offering a broad overview of key workplace safety topics to promote a safer work environment.

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Apply safe work practices and procedures to protect themselves and others in the workplace.

Knowledge checks throughout the course help reinforce learning. A minimum score of 80% is required to pass. Learners may attempt the course up to three times to achieve the pass mark. A downloadable student manual is included as a useful resource for review and future reference.
