It encompasses the vital methods and procedures required to execute locates safely, in compliance with the relevant regulatory mandates, acts, and industry best practices.
This 1-day (up to 8 hours) online underground facility locator training program is tailored to augment knowledge and skills pertaining to locating transmission pipeline facilities. The Transmission Advanced Line Locating (TALL) training course equips UFLs with advanced locating solutions to handle abnormal operating conditions (AOC's).

Module 1 – Introduction to Transmission Advanced Line Locating

Module 2 – Fundamentals of Line Locating
- Describe the theory of electromagnetic locating
- Explain fundamental function of the transmitter and the receiver
- Discuss signal distortion
Module 3 – Active Locating Methods
- Explain and apply the Direct Hook-Up Method
- Explain and apply the Inductive Clamp Method
- Explain and apply the Inductive Method
Module 4 – Passive Locating Methods
- Explain and apply the Radio Mode
- Explain and apply the Live Cable (Power) Mode.
- Explain and apply the Cathodic Protection System (CPS) Mode.
Module 5 – Advanced Locating Methods
- Explain and apply the Parallel Line Check Method
- Explain and apply the Sweeping Method.
- Explain and apply the Multi-Angle Sweeping Method.
- Explain and apply the 360° Sweeping Method.
- Explain and apply the ALL Method
Module 6 – Unconventional Locating Methods
- Explain and apply the Point A to Point B Method.

Tests conducted during this online course are designed to reinforce the information presented. A minimum score of 80% is required to receive a certificate of completion. Participants are allowed to retake the course as many times as required to achieve the pass mark.
