Reasonable Suspicion (DOT) – Supervisor (OSHA)

This DOT-approved safety course is designed for all DOT supervisors responsible for making reasonable suspicion determinations. The training covers the supervisor's responsibilities, drug and alcohol abuse, initiating corrective actions, testing procedures, and post-procedure steps. This course fulfills the in-class training requirement for occupational safety. It also provides an efficiency checklist for employers to use as a practical assessment tool. After completion, participants will be able to download and print a certificate or wallet card indicating that they have successfully finished the Reasonable Suspicion (DOT) - Supervisor training. NOTE: The employer alone can certify an employee. Certification prerequisites may differ by state or province. Consult local standards for any extra occupational training requirements.

COURSE OVERVIEW

Our Reasonable Suspicion course is crafted to meet OSHA and FMCSA guidelines. It explores topics such as the supervisor’s role, drug and alcohol abuse, initiating corrective actions, testing procedures, and post-procedure steps.

This course incorporates periodic practice quizzes to prepare the participants for the final written test. Along with the written exam, this course also offers a checklist for employers to use when conducting a practical test as mandated by OSHA.

Estimated Training Duration: As learning pace varies among individuals, the time taken to complete this training can differ. Nonetheless, as per FMCSA guidelines, this training should last a minimum of 2 hours.

While you will still need to acquaint yourself with all other relevant federal, state, and local standards, this training covers the following OSHA standards for reasonable suspicion:

  • 49 CFR 382.603: Training for Supervisors
  • 49 CFR 382.307: Reasonable Suspicion Testing
  • 49 CFR 40.43: Measures to ensure the security and integrity of urine collections
  • 49 CFR 40.223: Steps to safeguard the security of alcohol testing sites
  • 49 CFR 40.323: Rules for releasing drug or alcohol test information in legal proceedings
