Patient Handling Safety

COURSE OVERVIEW

Our engaging course on Patient Handling Safety aims to shed light on potential risks that may arise during patient handling tasks, and the measures that healthcare professionals can take to ensure their safety. Those providing healthcare, such as nurses, aides, orderlies, and other caregivers, may need to lift significant weight, up to four thousand pounds across a typical shift. It’s not surprising that these individuals are twice as likely to experience musculoskeletal injuries at work compared to employees in other sectors. However, these injuries can be prevented. The Patient Handling Safety course covers areas such as patient handling and caregiver injuries, algorithms, patient assessment and body mechanics, safe patient transfer practices, repositioning a patient in bed, the use of mechanical lift devices, and more.

Upon completion of the Patient Handling Safety course, employees will be able to:

  • Identify potential physical hazards related to patient handling procedures.
  • Understand and utilize the equipment and work practices required for these tasks.
  • Recognize the steps that healthcare organizations can take to safeguard employees from injuries associated with patient handling.
