Hours of Service Training Module 4: Exceptions
The Hours of Service Exceptions course is intended to provide a comprehensive understanding of the exceptions that can be utilized, and the correct way to use them. Inability to explain an exception might result in a violation, as it could be interpreted as non-compliance with the rules. Accurate application and correct identification of exceptions can lead to a reduction in violations.
The Hours of Service Exceptions course aims to offer in-depth knowledge about the exceptions that can be employed, and the right method to use them. It is crucial for a driver to explain an exception, as failure to do so might lead to a violation, giving the impression of a breach of rules. Proper use and correct identification of exceptions can result in a decrease in violations.

The online Hours of Service: Exceptions course encompasses the following topics:
- Air-Mile Radius Short-Haul
- 16-Hour (“big day”)
- Split-Sleeper Berth
- Adverse Driving Conditions
- Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs)

- Personal Conveyance
- Additional Exceptions
Approximately 35 minutes
Testing conducted within this online course is designed to reinforce the information presented. A score of 80% must be achieved in order to pass this course. The course can be taken three times in attempts to achieve the pass mark. Printable resources are available in the form of a comprehensive student manual. The manual is a valuable resource for future reference and knowledge retention.
Upon successful completion of this online course, a certificate of completion will be available for download and printing.
