COURSE OVERVIEW


The WHMIS Train-the-Trainer course offered by the Heavy Construction Safety Association of Saskatchewan (HCSAS) is an immersive, interactive program that traverses the 7 key sectors of WHMIS. Participants will delve into an array of circumstances as they familiarize themselves with the rights and obligations of all entities involved in hazardous product operations. The course discusses the specific risks tied to different types of hazards and how to alleviate and protect against them. An essential part of the HCSAS WHMIS Train the Trainer program is that it equips learners to become competent WHMIS educators, sharing examples of effective teaching practices and tips to optimize their teaching roles.


COURSE TOPICS


• An Introduction to WHMIS: In this unit, we learn about WHMIS, why it was enacted, and why it is so integral to safe working environments.

• Responsibilities: In Module 2, we explore the various responsibilities that are required for Suppliers, Employers, and Workers

• Classification: Knowledge is power when using hazardous materials, in Module 3, we take a look at how the various hazards are classified un WHMIS. Allowing us to understand the risks of products we've never seen before.

• Labels: Products all have unique names, handing instructions, manufacturers, and more! In Module 4, we define the difference between Supplier Labels and Workplace Labels, as well as learn how to inform ourselves with WHMIS Labels.

• Hazard Symbols: Flammable, Biohazard, Corrosive. Easy to understand visuals that communicate the hazards associated with a product quickly and clearly.

• Safety Data Sheets (SDS): All the information in one place. Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are extremely detailed documents containing all relevant safety information related to a product. In Module 6, we look at how to read one and learn where to keep them.

• Site Specific Training: Designing training and procedures for your unique workplace.

• Train-The-Trainer: The HCSAS WHMIS Train the Trainer course is crafted to assist learners in becoming effective educators of WHMIS content by regularly providing context and teaching tips throughout the course.
This course is one of four mandatory classes for COR/SECOR (Certificate of Recognition) attainment.


ONLINE COURSE DURATION

Approximately 180 minutes


PASS MARK


To obtain a certificate of completion, participants must achieve a minimum score of 80%. The course can be retaken twice if the passing score is not attained on the first attempt.


CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION


Upon successful completion of this online course, a certificate of completion will be available for download and print.
