HAZWOPER: Temperature Extremes

HAZWOPER: TEMPERATURE EXTREMES Hazardous waste poses an ongoing threat to people, wildlife, and the environment. Workers tasked with the cleanup process of these sites face many health and safety risks. OSHA introduced the HAZWOPER Standard to safeguard workers during clean-up operations and equip them to manage waste safely and efficiently. Extreme temperatures present significant risks to the health, safety, and comfort of these workers. Heat stress is a primary hazard, particularly for workers outdoors or wearing protective gear. Surprisingly, outdoor temperatures don't need to be very high for heat to accumulate within protective suits. While less prevalent, cold-related disorders can also affect workers in outdoor or cold storage environments. Extreme temperatures, whether hot or cold, can be life-threatening. This HAZWOPER: Temperature Extremes course aims to educate cleanup site workers about the dangers of working in extreme temperatures, signs and symptoms of temperature-related illness or injury, response protocols, and protective measures.
