COURSE OVERVIEW

Events necessitating first aid can occur unpredictably at any location. The initial reaction to such occurrences is vital. Administering first aid at the incident site can significantly enhance a victim’s chances of survival and recovery. This First Aid – The Basics course offers learners insights on how to handle initial first aid situations until professional medical help arrives. All workers are the target audience for this course.

COURSE TOPICS

This online First Aid – Basics course encompasses the following themes:

  • Assessing the Scene and the Victim
  • Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
  • Basics of First Aid
  • Respiratory Emergencies
  • Choking, Hemorrhaging and Shock
  • Breaks, Twists and Pulls

On completion of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand when they may be held responsible for a victim’s condition
  • Evaluate scenes and victims prior to administering first aid
  • Provide critical information to emergency medical services (EMS)
  • Remember guidelines regarding when and how to relocate victims
  • Remember fundamental first aid methods for managing breathing emergencies, choking, severe bleeding, shock, fractures, sprains, strains, and burns
ONLINE COURSE DURATION

Estimated time of 40 minutes

PASS MARK

Testing conducted throughout this online course aims to reinforce the information presented. A score of 80% must be achieved to pass this course. The course can be attempted thrice to reach the pass mark. A printable job aid is provided for all applicable UL courses.

Upon successful completion of this online course, a certificate of completion will be available for download and printing.
