Driving Defensively
Our online Driving Defensively training course delivers essential knowledge to ensure employees operate vehicles such as cars, vans, and small trucks safely, both during work hours and in their personal lives.
The principle of Defensive Driving is to always be prepared for potential problems. This doesn’t mean inviting trouble, but rather being ready to protect oneself from other drivers and the difficulties they might create.
The act of driving is inherently fraught with risk, and no matter how cautious drivers are, they have no power over the actions of others on the road. Whether they are exceeding the speed limit, following too closely, or simply failing to pay adequate attention, other drivers can increase the danger on the roads. But they aren’t the only issue.
Most vehicular accidents occur after dark, when reduced visibility makes driving more challenging. Adverse weather conditions such as rain, snow, and ice can lead to loss of control. Moreover, there could be issues with the vehicle itself.
Arming employees with the knowledge required to defend themselves while driving can help in mitigating these risks, thereby contributing to safer roads for all.
The “Driving Defensively” Micro-Learning curriculum comprises seven 35-minute modules:
“The Fundamentals”
“Handling Distracted Drivers”
“Managing Aggressive Drivers”
“Proper Use of Headlights”
“Safe Driving in Adverse Weather”
“Responding to a Tire Blowout”
“Sharing the Road with Trucks and Buses”
This online course in Driving Defensively covers topics such as:
- The “fundamentals” of defensive driving
- Common road hazards encountered while driving
- Safe driving practices when sharing the road with large vehicles
- How to avoid distractions and “road rage”
- Maintaining a safe following distance
- Preparing your vehicle for adverse weather conditions
- Techniques for safe driving under challenging conditions

Duration: Approximately 35 minutes
Continuous testing throughout this online course is designed to reinforce the material presented. A score of 80% is required to pass this course. The course can be attempted thrice to achieve the pass mark. Accessible resources include an exhaustive student manual. The manual is a valuable reference for future use and knowledge retention.
Upon successful completion of this online course, a certificate of completion is readily available for download and printing.
