Confined Space Competent Person (CAN)

This is a safety training program compliant with Canadian safety standards, designed to educate employees about the roles and responsibilities of a competent person in confined spaces. The course covers a variety of topics such as competent person, equipment, testing, operations, hazards, and rescue procedures. This course satisfies the theoretical requirement for occupational safety training. It also provides a proficiency checklist for employers to conduct a practical evaluation. After completion, students can download and print a certificate or wallet card to show that they have successfully finished the Canada Confined Space - Competent Person training. NOTE: Only an employer can certify an employee. Certification requirements can differ by state or province. Check local standards for additional occupational training requirements.

COURSE OVERVIEW

Our Confined Space Competent Person (CAN) Training course complies with regulation guidelines. This comprehensive program discusses the following topics:

  • Atmospheric testing and monitoring processes
  • Safe operations, including confined space entry procedures
  • Common hazards like IDLH atmospheres
  • Rescue methods
  • And much more!

This course features practice quiz questions throughout the presentation to prepare students for the final written exam included with the course. In addition to the written exam, this course also provides a checklist for employers to use when conducting a practical exam as required.

While you’ll need to familiarize yourself with all other relevant federal, state, provincial, territorial, and local standards, this training covers the following standards:

  • CSA Z1006-10 (R2015) – Management of work in confined spaces
  • CSA Z94.4-11 – Selection, use, and care of respirators
  • CSA Z180.1-13 – Compressed breathing air and systems
  • CSA Z259.12-11 – Fall Protection
  • CSA Z259.2.5-12 – Fall arresters and vertical lifelines
  • CSA Z259.100-12 – Full body harnesses
  • CSA Z259.2.2-14 – Self-retracting devices
  • CSA Z460-13 – Control of hazardous energy (lockout, and other methods)
  • CSA W117.2-94 – Safety in Welding, Cutting, Allied Processes
