Cargo Securement Core Program
This Cargo Securement Course is built for commercial drivers, fleet managers, and transportation professionals who must meet North American compliance standards. In just over an hour, participants will cover essential regulations, securement tools, and safe handling techniques. The program blends legal requirements with practical applications, helping drivers build confidence and competence for real-world hauling and inspections.
The course begins with a detailed introduction to the rules and authorities that oversee securement practices across Canada and the United States. Learners will gain awareness of organizations and standards such as the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA), the North American Cargo Securement Standard (NACSS), and the National Safety Code’s Standard 10. Alberta’s Commercial Vehicle Safety Regulation (AR121/2009) and the Commercial Vehicle Certificate and Insurance Regulation (AR314/2002) are also highlighted.
After establishing this regulatory background, the training moves into hands-on best practices. Participants will review the use of securement systems and devices, techniques for securing different types of loads, and procedures for conducting en-route inspections.
