COURSE OVERVIEW


The Canadian Welding Red Seal Self-Assessment is a web-based mock examination designed to evaluate your welding proficiency before attempting the red seal journeyman test.

This online test is a beneficial resource for individuals and organizations seeking to identify skill shortages before undertaking a welders’ red seal challenge test, and for recruiters assessing the trade qualifications of overseas workers.

Upon completing the Canadian Welding Red Seal Self-Assessment, you should be equipped to:


COURSE TOPICS


Welding Safety – This section of the exam evaluates general safety in the welding trade concerning fumes, equipment, and consumables.

Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) – This section of the exam evaluates general knowledge about shielded metal arc welding including polarity, electrode numbering, and equipment requirements.

Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) – This section of the exam evaluates general knowledge about gas metal arc welding including wire selection, gas selection, and equipment requirements.

Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) – This section of the exam evaluates general knowledge about gas tungsten arc welding including gases used, equipment requirements, tungsten selection, and filler wire numbering and composition.

Oxy-Fuel Processes – This section of the exam evaluates general knowledge about cutting and welding operations including cylinder safety, regulators, tip selection, and filler wire classifications.

Steel Fabrication – This section of the exam evaluates general knowledge about steel fabrication including layout, fabrication equipment, measuring, and tools.

PASS MARK


If you score less than 75% on this self-assessment, a detailed training plan will be provided within 7 days, featuring topic areas for further review along with study resources.

If you score 75% or above on this self-assessment, a comprehensive review of all Red Seal Welding topics will be beneficial.
