Ammonia is a multi-faceted substance with a wide range of applications. From refrigeration to cleaning, bleaching to household cleaning, and even in the manufacturing of fertilizers, plastics, explosives, and pharmaceuticals, Ammonia’s role is extensive.
The Ammonia Awareness course aims to assist learners in understanding the fundamental aspects of blood-borne pathogens, illustrating protective measures, and outlining the steps to take in case of exposure, including the decontamination process.
Ammonia holds significant importance for plant, animal, and human life. It is a common element in water, soil, and air, providing the much-needed nitrogen for plants and animals. The majority of the ammonia in nature is derived from the organic breakdown of manure and deceased plants and animals. However, ammonia does pose certain risks. This Ammonia Awareness course is designed to discuss these risks and provide guidance on how to safeguard against them.
Upon completion of this course, learners will be equipped to:
- Recognize the physical characteristics of anhydrous ammonia
- Understand the prerequisites for safe storage and handling of ammonia
- Enumerate the health impacts of ammonia exposure
- Determine the suitable personal protective equipment for working around ammonia

The testing in this Ammonia Awareness online course is structured to reinforce the information presented. A minimum score of 80% is required to obtain a certificate of completion. Participants are given two attempts if the pass mark is not achieved in the first attempt.
Upon successful conclusion of this online course, a certificate of completion will be readily available for download and print.
