Scrap and Material Handler (OSHA)

This OSHA-guided safety instruction course is designed for individuals operating a scrap and material handler. It covers a variety of topics such as equipment anatomy and inspection, stability, secure operations, and risk identification. This course fulfills the theoretical requirement for occupational safety training. It also includes a proficiency checklist, enabling employers to conduct a practical evaluation. Upon course completion, participants can download and print a certificate or wallet card as proof of their Scrap and Material Handler training completion. NOTE: Only an employer can bestow a certification status on an employee. Certification requirements can differ depending on the state or province. Please review local standards for any additional occupational training requirements.

COURSE OVERVIEW


Our Scrap & Material Handler course is designed to be fully compliant with regulations, and our online version satisfies classroom training requirements. Each module includes sections on equipment anatomy and inspection, stability, secure operations, and prevalent hazards.

During the course, we will examine the anatomy of the scrap and material handler in depth. We will highlight the key components that should be inspected before each shift. Following that, we will delve into the principles of stability to keep in mind while operating the machine.
Next up, we will discuss secure operating principles pertinent to your machine and your workspace. Lastly, we will explore the common risks associated with working around scrap handlers. We will analyze some accident profiles to provide real-life examples of the consequences of not following secure operating principles.

This course includes periodic practice quiz questions to prepare for the final written exam. Additionally, this course also includes a checklist for employers to use when administering a practical exam, as mandated by OSHA.

Estimated Training Length: As everyone learns and progresses at their own pace, the time taken to complete this course will vary. However, it is estimated that this course will take approximately 1.5 – 2 hours.

  • 29 CFR 1926.28 – PPE
