Canada Hours of Service Training Module 6: ELD Basics

Time is an unalterable resource. For commercial drivers, time is additionally constrained by the hours-of-service regulations. These regulations aim to eliminate exhaustion-induced road accidents caused by spending extended periods behind the wheel. Adherence to these regulations is therefore mandatory for all commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers. The Canada Hours of Service Training program is designed to foster compliance while optimizing the hours available through comprehensive understanding of how the constraints impact safety and productivity.

Canada Hours of Service Training Module 6: ELD Basics

COURSE OVERVIEW

The constriction of time is a universal truth. In the commercial driving industry, this constriction is amplified by the hours-of-service regulations. The objective of these regulations is to prevent fatigue-induced road accidents by limiting the time drivers spend on the road. Observance of these regulations is thus enforced for all commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers.

The Canada Hours of Service Training program aims to promote obedience to these regulations while optimizing the hours available, by providing drivers and carriers with a comprehensive understanding of how these constraints influence safety and productivity.

Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs), while simplifying the process of creating a duty status, can also introduce new complexities. Despite the intricate technical standards, ELDs automate much of the recording process, making for more accurate and effortless tracking of duty status for drivers.

Canada Hours of Service Training: ELD Basics is curated to assist drivers in the compliant usage of ELDs and the correct application of special driving categories such as personal use and yard move. It aims to equip drivers with the knowledge to minimize unassigned driving events, understand when to edit the record, and comprehend the significance of reviewing the record prior to submission.
