Bloodborne Pathogens

The Bloodborne Pathogens online teaching program provides you with the necessary knowledge to safeguard yourself and others from bloodborne pathogen infections in your work environment.

Bloodborne Pathogens

COURSE OVERVIEW

Bloodborne pathogens are organisms such as viruses or bacteria that cause diseases in humans through blood transmission. Some of the most commonly known bloodborne pathogens are syphilis, hepatitis B (HBV), hepatitis C (HCV), and the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). It is important to understand that bloodborne pathogens can be a safety issue in any workplace where there is a potential for contact with blood or other bodily fluids through injuries, needlesticks, or similar incidents. Our Bloodborne Pathogens online course provides comprehensive training to help prevent and control exposure to these pathogens in the workplace.

The Bloodborne Pathogens course is divided into four sections:

  • Chapter 1: Understanding Bloodborne Pathogens
  • Chapter 2: Preventing Transmission and Exposure
  • Chapter 3: Safe Handling of Sharps and Biohazardous Materials
  • Chapter 4: Dealing with Exposure Incidents

COURSE TOPICS

To effectively prevent exposure to bloodborne pathogens, it is vital to understand their different types, how to prevent them, and the procedures for proper clean-up to avoid accidental contraction. By the end of the Bloodborne Pathogens course, you should be able to:

  • Define what bloodborne pathogens are
  • Identify common infections and their symptoms
  • Detect the presence of bloodborne pathogens in the workplace
  • Describe the transmission of bloodborne pathogens
  • Identify the controls used in engineering and administration to prevent exposure to bloodborne pathogens
  • Outline the procedures to be followed in case of exposure
