COURSE OVERVIEW

Injuries resulting from manual material handling constitute a significant portion of workplace ailments in Canada. Such injuries are referred to as musculoskeletal injuries (MSIs) and can be avoided with appropriate knowledge, methods, and equipment. This Safe Manual Material Handling course offers an in-depth understanding of how these injuries occur and, most importantly, how to prevent them. The course content is based on guidelines from the US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS).

This Safe Manual Material Handling course is divided into five modules:

  • Module 1: Understanding Manual Material Handling
  • Module 2: Identifying Potential Injuries
  • Module 3: Performing Pre-task Assessment
  • Module 4: Implementing Safe Manual Handling Techniques
  • Module 5: Adopting Preventative Strategies

On completion of the Safe Manual Material Handling course, a final exam will be administered to evaluate your understanding.

Upon concluding this training session, you should be able to:

  • Recognize symptoms and injuries resulting from manual material handling
  • Evaluate manual material handling tasks and identify factors that pose injury risk
  • Select suitable mechanical handling aids when necessary
  • Apply safe handling methods and techniques to avert injuries
  • Formulate strategies to enhance the safety of your manual material handling tasks

Estimated 40 minutes

PASS MARK

Students must achieve a score of 80% or higher to earn a certificate of completion for this online course. If the pass mark is not achieved, students may retake the course two more times.

CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION


A certificate of completion will be made available for download and printing upon successful completion of this online course.
