This web-based utility locator training course was formulated with insights from industry professionals. The course covers the theoretical aspects required to safely execute utility locates in line with relevant regulatory requirements, legislations, and industry best practices.

Module 1 – Introduction to Utility Advanced Line Locating
- Describe underground (buried) facilities and ground disturbance.
Module 2 – Locator Requests & Locator Responsibilities
- Identify locate requests.
- Identify Locator responsibilities.
Module 3 – Locating Procedures
- Explain locating procedures.
Module 4 – Locating Fundamentals
- Describe the theory of electromagnetic locating.
- Explain frequencies and transmitter signals.
- Explain receiver signals and antenna configurations.
- Discuss signal distortion.
Estimated completion time: 2 hours
Assessments conducted throughout this online course are designed to reinforce the learning material. A score of 80% or more is required to receive a completion certificate. Participants can retake the course as many times as needed to achieve the passing score.
Upon successful completion of the Introduction to Underground Facility Locating CAN Edition, a certificate of completion will be available for download and printing. The certificate will remain valid for 3 years from the date of course completion as indicated on the certificate.
