HAZWOPER: Radiation & Biological Exposures

HAZWOPER: RADIATION & BIOLOGICAL EXPOSURES Hazardous waste presents an ongoing threat to people, wildlife, and environmental sustainability. Workers tasked with remediation of hazardous waste sites are exposed to various safety and health risks. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has established the Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Standard to provide protection for these workers during cleanup processes and equip them to manage the wastes securely and efficiently. Hazardous waste sites are often associated with hazardous waste and other toxic chemicals. However, certain sites also present radiological and biological risks. It is crucial for workers to be trained about these risks and the preventive measures to minimize or mitigate their exposure. This HAZWOPER course aims to acquaint workers with the kinds of radiation they might encounter on the job, dose limits, postings, and strategies to minimize radiation exposure. Additionally, it aims to educate workers about various biological agents they need to be aware of and how to guard themselves against bloodborne pathogens, as well as harmful plants, animals, and insects.
