COURSE OVERVIEW

The Petroleum Advanced Line Locating (PALL) is a single-day (maximum of 8 hours) web-based training program that aims to enhance the knowledge and skills required to locate petroleum producer’s facilities. The course offers Underground Facility Locator (UFL) sophisticated strategies to handle abnormal operating conditions (AOC’s).

The development of this PALL e-learning course was influenced by industry experts and details the necessary methods and procedures required to conduct petroleum producers’ facility locates safely, adhering to all relevant regulatory requirements, acts, and industry best practices.

This PALL course includes online quizzes and a final exam. A certificate and wallet card are issued upon successful completion.

COURSE TOPICS

Module 1 – Introduction to Petroleum Advanced Line Locating

  • Describe underground (buried) facilities and ground disturbance.

Module 2 – Locator Requests & Locator Responsibilities

  • Identify locate requests.
  • Identify Locator responsibilities.

Module 3 – Locating Procedures

  • Explain locating procedures.

Module 4 – Locating Fundamentals

  • Describe the theory of electromagnetic locating.
  • Explain frequencies and transmitter signals.
  • Explain receiver signals and antenna configurations.
  • Discuss signal distortion.

Module 5 – Active Locating Methods

  • Explain and apply the Direct Hook-Up Method
  • Explain and apply the Inductive Clamp Method
  • Explain and apply the Inductive Method

Module 6 – Passive Locating Methods

  • Explain and apply the Radio Mode
  • Explain and apply the Live Cable (Power) Mode.
  • Explain and apply the Cathodic Protection System
    (CPS) Mode.

Module 7 – Advanced Locating Methods

  • Explain and apply the Parallel Line Check Method
  • Explain and apply the Sweeping Method.
  • Explain and apply the Multi-Angle Sweeping Method.
  • Explain and apply the 360° Sweeping Method.
  • Explain and apply the ALL Method

Module 8 – Unconventional Locating Methods

  • Explain and apply the Point A to Point B Method.
  • Explain and apply the Measurement Method.
  • Explain and apply the Visual Evidence Method.

Module 9 – Obstacles and Problem Solving

  • Explain locating obstacles.
  • Apply problem solving procedures.

ONLINE COURSE DURATION

The course duration is approximately 8 hours

PASS MARK

This online course includes testing designed to reinforce the information presented. A minimum score of 80% is required to receive a certificate of completion. Participants are able to retake the course as many times as necessary if the passing mark is not achieved. 

CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION

Upon successful completion of this online course, a certificate of completion will be available for download and printing. The certificate is valid for 3 years from the course completion date indicated on the certificate.
