Overhead Electrical Utilities (CAN)

This Canada-compliant training course is designed for employees of electric utility companies who are required to work at elevated heights. The course focuses on aspects such as grounding, equipment handling, safe work procedures, and rescue operations. When completed, this course fulfills the theoretical part of the occupational safety training requirement. It also comes with a proficiency checklist for employers to assess practical skills. Upon successfully completing the Overhead Electric Utilities training, participants can download and print a certificate or wallet card as proof of their training. NOTE: Only an employer can designate an employee as certified. Certification requirements may differ from one state or province to another. Please check local regulations for any additional occupational training requirements.

COURSE OVERVIEW


Our Overhead Electric Utilities training course complies with regulations, and our online module meets the requirement for classroom-based training.

Throughout this course, we will be discussing correct grounding techniques; equipment commonly used or encountered in the field of overhead electrical utilities, including cranes and bucket trucks; effective strategies for maintaining safety at the worksite; pole-top and tower-top rescue operations; and we will provide real-world case studies to better illustrate the course’s content.

NOTE: This course does not qualify as a competent climber/rescuer training.

This course incorporates periodic practice quizzes to help prepare you for the written final exam that’s part of the course. Along with the written exam, this course provides a checklist for employers to conduct a practical exam as per OSHA requirements.

While you will still need to familiarize yourself with all other relevant federal, state, and local standards, this training covers the following laws and regulations:

•    CAN/CSA-B167-08 – Overhead traveling Cranes

•    CAN/CSA-C22.2 – Safety Code for Material Hoists

•    ISO 16715:2014 – Hand Signals used with Cranes

•    ASME/ANSI B30.1-29 – Cranes, Slings, Below the Hook Lifting Devices

•    ASME/ANSI B30.2 – Overhead and Gantry Cranes

•    ASME B30.11 – Monorails and Under-hung Cranes

•    ASME B30.16 – Overhead Hoists

•    SME B30.17 Overhead and Gantry Cranes
