    COURSE OVERVIEW


    Those at the awareness level, often the first responders, are likely to be the first to notice a hazardous substance release. They are trained to initiate an emergency response sequence by alerting the appropriate authorities of the release. They do not take further action beyond alerting the authorities of the release. It’s crucial that these awareness-level responders understand their roles, including the tasks they are expected to perform and the boundaries they they must respect. They should be well-versed with their organization’s Emergency Response Plan and the procedure to activate it.
