Rigger and Signalperson (Advanced) (OSHA)

This OSHA-approved safety training course is designed for proficient riggers and signalers. The course covers a range of topics including load stability, understanding load charts, types of slings, hardware, lifting equipment, weight considerations, angles and stresses, sling hitches, crane operations, crane safety, and communication techniques. This course fulfills the classroom requirement for occupational safety training and includes a competency checklist for employers to administer a practical evaluation. On completion, learners can download and print a certificate or wallet card to demonstrate they have completed the Advanced Rigger and Signalperson training. NOTE: Certification can only be granted by an employer. Certification requirements may vary from state to state or province to province. Check local standards for any additional occupational training requirements.

The course features periodic quiz questions to help prepare for the final written exam which is part of the course. Alongside the written exam, the course also provides a checklist for employers to use for conducting a required practical exam as per OSHA.

Gain a thorough understanding of how to secure loads and prevent common rigging accidents.
Identify different types of rigging equipment including slings, shackles, eye bolts, hooks and frequently used lifting devices.
Understand the strengths and weaknesses of this equipment and how to inspect it.
Learn how to calculate the weight of the load and compute the angles and stresses of a pick. Gain knowledge on different methods to secure a load with sling hitches.
Acquire knowledge on the basics of crane operations, including how to rig the load based on its center of gravity. Learn the requirements for critical lifts, tandem lifts, and lifting personnel.
Learn about safe crane operating principles including pre-lift planning and inspections. We also cover the limitations of some equipment and safety features.
Understand the changing conditions of your worksite.
Learn to use voice and hand signals to communicate with the crane operator when moving a load.

Estimated Course Duration: Course duration will vary from person to person, as everyone’s learning speed is different. However, the estimated time for this training is approximately 5.5-6 hours.
