Once deemed competent, Instructors can issue a permanent certificate valid for 5 years from the date of evaluation. The employer is responsible for retaining training proofs and evaluations on record. As per OHS regulations, HCSAS is not accountable for any training conducted outside of the organization.

This notice is a reminder of your responsibilities regarding practical training as outlined by Saskatchewan legislation.

Our association is committed to providing quality training opportunities to our members. Thus, it’s critical to highlight the differences between theory-based training and practical training.

In consultation with Labour Relations and Workplace Safety (LRWS) and Ministry of Highways (MoH), it is confirmed that employers must complete onsite practical training with their workers that comply with the Saskatchewan Employment Act, and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020.

Please note that the HCSAS Workzone Flagperson Training provided by the Heavy Construction Safety Association of Saskatchewan (HCSAS) is theory training.

HCSAS will not be held responsible for the practical portion of training on the courses listed below:

•    Flag Person Training
•    WHMIS Train the Trainer
•    Powered Mobile Equipment (PME) Evaluator

On-site practical evaluations must be completed by the employer beyond the theory portion taught by HCSAS.

Certificates will be issued with the theory completion date by HCSAS. Practical completion dates must be filled in by the employer once documentation and training records have been obtained for the onsite portion of training.

As an employer operating in Saskatchewan, it is crucial to ensure compliance with Saskatchewan Employment Act, and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020, particularly concerning practical training within the workplace.
