This module will educate you on the potential dangers related to formaldehyde, locations in the workplace where formaldehyde is commonly found, and the protective measures to employ if you handle or work in proximity to this hazardous substance. The “Formaldehyde Safety” course is designed to enhance your understanding of this chemical.

Upon successful completion of this course, you should have a comprehensive understanding of:

  • The physical attributes of formaldehyde.
  • Items that incorporate formaldehyde.
  • The different ways formaldehyde can enter the body, and outline the health risks of short- and long-term exposure.
  • The reasons why relying on your senses to detect the presence of formaldehyde is not advisable.
  • The permissible exposure limit (PEL), action level, and short term exposure limit (STEL), and illustrate how these are utilized in the monitoring process.
  • The various protective measures that workers employ to safeguard themselves from dangerous contact with formaldehyde.
  • The most effective workplace practices that aid in ensuring worker safety when dealing with formaldehyde.
