Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA)

Our web-based Emergency Planning & Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) course is designed to acquaint learners with the specifics of the EPCRA regulation and its mandates.

Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA)

APERÇU DU COURS

The U.S. Army Surgeon General has projected that an assault on a single U.S. chemical plant could result in injuries or fatalities ranging from 900,000 to 2.4 million individuals. Given the potential threat posed by the uncontrolled release of hazardous materials—such as harmful, flammable gases and waste—to the workforce and the public, it is crucial that people are aware of the risks associated with these operations. Furthermore, Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) emphasizes the importance of emergency preparedness for establishments that handle or generate hazardous substances in significant quantities.

On successful completion of this course, learners should be capable of identifying:

  • The origin and objectives of the EPCRA regulation
  • The four distinct types of chemicals outlined in the regulation
  • The emergency preparedness mandates of Section 302 and 303
  • The emergency release notification mandates of Section 304, including potential release scenarios at a facility
  • The mandates and exceptions for SDS submissions in Section 311 and chemical inventory reporting in Section 312, particularly Tier II reporting
  • The mandates of toxic chemical release reporting in Section 313
