First Aid - Basics (US) course aims to prepare you to react promptly and effectively in different first aid scenarios. The initial assistance provided in such scenarios can significantly increase a victim's chances of survival and recovery. This course equips you with the knowledge and skills to handle various basic first aid situations until professional medical help arrives.
The First Aid – Basics (US) course is designed with the understanding that emergencies requiring first aid can occur anytime, anywhere. The initial response to such an event is crucial. Through this course, you will learn how to provide first aid at the scene, enhancing the victim’s survival and recovery chances. The course also imparts knowledge on how to navigate basic first aid situations until Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel arrive.
This online First Aid – Basics (US) course covers the following topics:
- Scene and Victim Assessment
- Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
- First Aid Basics
- Breathing Emergencies
- Choking, Bleeding and Shock
- Fractures, Sprains and Strains
Upon completion of the First Aid – Basics (US) course, you should be able to::
- Understand the Good Samaritan law
- Evaluate scenes and victims before administering first aid
- Communicate crucial information to emergency medical services (EMS)
- Understand the guidelines about when and how to move victims
- Remember basic first aid methods for treating breathing emergencies, choking, severe bleeding, shock, fractures, sprains, strains and burns
The course can be completed in approximately 40 minutes
The course includes testing to reinforce the information provided. To pass the First Aid – Basics (US) course, a score of 80% is required. Students have up to three attempts to achieve the pass mark. A comprehensive student manual is available for download, serving as a valuable resource for future reference and knowledge retention.
