worded legislation. It is earned through trust, listening, and a genuine commitment to people. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/megan-scott-0103bb94\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Megan Scott<\/a><\/strong> understands this deeply.<\/p><p>According to the International Labour Organization, more than 2.7 million workers globally die each year from work-related injuries or illnesses, underscoring the human stakes behind every safety decision.<\/p><p>With more than 13 years of hands-on safety program management experience across multiple industries and provinces, Megan has built her career by meeting workers where they are, not where regulations assume they should be. That people-first mindset continues to shape her work at <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.artisinc.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Artis<\/a><\/strong>, where her approach challenges a long-standing misconception in safety: that enforcement alone creates safer workplaces. Like many safety professionals, it started when responsibility landed on her desk unexpectedly.<\/p><p>In fact, industry surveys consistently show that a large percentage of safety professionals enter the field indirectly, often after being assigned safety responsibilities alongside another role.<\/p><p>Early in her career, Megan worked as a site administrator for an industrial painting company, managing safety documentation for a major construction project. When she later moved into a non-safety role, an upcoming audit forced the company to confront a gap. Their safety lead was gone, and no one had been maintaining the program.<\/p><p>At just 21 years old, Megan stepped in.<\/p><p>With no formal education in safety at the time and little guidance, she rebuilt and managed a COR-aligned safety program spanning three provinces. Over the next decade, she learned the work from the inside out. Through audits, incident management, program development, and direct engagement with crews.<\/p><p>COR programs have been linked to measurable reductions in injury rates and workers\u2019 compensation claims across multiple Canadian jurisdictions.<\/p><p>\u201cThat sink-or-swim experience taught me more than any classroom ever could,\u201d Megan says. \u201cI need real-world context to understand safety. Treating safety as a box to check rather than a responsibility to share.<\/p><p>This disconnect creates risk.
