href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/driversafetyandtrainingexpert\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spencer McDonald<\/a><\/strong> never set out to become one of Canada\u2019s most respected driver training voices. Back in 1983, all he wanted was to cover rent. He was selling motorcycles at a dealership in British Columbia when life took an abrupt detour, laid off, no severance, no safety net. One minute he was ringing up sales; the next, he was packing up his desk.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then came a question that changed everything.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A longtime customer looked at him and asked, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSo, what\u2019s next?\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McDonald had no answer. He hadn\u2019t thought that far ahead.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The customer smiled. \u201cYou\u2019d probably make a good motorcycle instructor.\u201d<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That offhand comment stuck. A few days later, McDonald applied to the training school the man mentioned. Weeks later, he was standing in an empty parking lot with a clipboard, coaching nervous beginners through their first laps. It didn\u2019t take long for the organization to recognize his knack for connecting with students.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThey liked my approach,\u201d McDonald says. \u201cSoon, I was running programs and eventually training other instructors.\u201d<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before long, he was no longer just teaching people how to handle a clutch, he was shaping how instructors taught across the province.
