Despite accounting for a minor portion of total distances traveled, reversing contributes to a significant number of reported incidents in many fleet operations, regardless of vehicle size. These incidents carry an immense cost in terms of vehicle and property damage, insurance claims, raising premiums, and frequent injuries and fatalities. <\/p>\n<p>This engaging course, rich in multimedia, offers learners a variety of interactive on-screen activities including quizzes, click to discover facts, video, and audio commentary. Updated for 2020, this premier defensive driving eLearning program features a user-friendly interface. Employees appreciate this course for its informative, interesting, and entertaining content that keeps them engaged.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"title-bar\" style=\"font-size: 18.0px\"><b><b>COURSE TOPICS<\/b><\/b><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt\">Seven Fundamentals of Safe Backing <br \/><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt\"><br \/><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt\">Avoiding Backing<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The most effective way to avoid a backing collision is to avoid reversing. We provide several practical techniques and strategies to reduce the need for reversing by at least 50%. These techniques, not taught in driving schools, are easy to incorporate into daily driving habits, enhancing safety and reducing stress. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt\">Circle check <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Many incidents occur when a vehicle is moved without completing a circle check, whether moving forward or backward. The second fundamental describes how to perform a circle check and why it&#8217;s crucial in preventing backing incidents. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt\">Look Back <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Despite being taught to look where we are going since childhood, many employees back up without looking through the rear window or using mirrors. Many drivers don&#8217;t use mirrors effectively due to misunderstanding how to adjust them properly. This part of the course teaches correct mirror adjustment.<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt\">Back slowly <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Vehicles behave differently when reversing. Steering changes drastically, and it&#8217;s easy to lose control when backing at high speeds. The course content highlights the importance of controlling speed and presents techniques to effectively manage speed while reversing. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt\">Use a guide <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Having a second person at the rear of the vehicle guiding the driver and looking out for hazards is one of the most effective strategies for preventing backing incidents. We cover guide positioning, communication signals, and actions if the guide moves out of the driver&#8217;s view. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt\">Avoid distractions <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Distractions divert the driver&#8217;s attention from the task at hand and reduce attentiveness. We discuss common distracted driving issues and practical solutions, encouraging employees to avoid distractions not only when backing but whenever operating a vehicle. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 12.0pt\">Practice <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Mastering backing is easy, practice is the key. We encourage employees to learn basic backing skills and then practice using exercises that we suggest until they feel confident to back up a vehicle with skill and expertise. <\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"title-bar\" style=\"font-size: 18.0px\"><b><b>ONLINE COURSE DURATION<\/b><\/b><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Approximately 60 minutes<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"title-bar\" style=\"font-size: 18.0px\"><b><b>PASS MARK<\/b><\/b><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Testing conducted throughout this online course, Preventing Backing Incidents, is designed to reinforce the information presented. A mark of 90% must be achieved in order to receive a certificate of completion. Participants are able to repeat the course twice if the pass mark is not achieved.
