Workers tasked with the cleanup process of these sites face many health and safety risks. OSHA introduced the HAZWOPER Standard to safeguard workers during clean-up operations and equip them to manage waste safely and efficiently. Extreme temperatures present significant risks to the health, safety, and comfort of these workers. Heat stress is a primary hazard, particularly for workers outdoors or wearing protective gear. Surprisingly, outdoor temperatures don&#8217;t need to be very high for heat to accumulate within protective suits. While less prevalent, cold-related disorders can also affect workers in outdoor or cold storage environments. Extreme temperatures, whether hot or cold, can be life-threatening. This HAZWOPER: Temperature Extremes course aims to educate cleanup site workers about the dangers of working in extreme temperatures, signs and symptoms of temperature-related illness or injury, response protocols, and protective measures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 14.0px\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"title-bar\"><span style=\"font-size: 18.0px;float: none\"><b>COURSE TOPICS<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-size: 14.0px\">\n<li>Heat is a Hazard<\/li>\n<li>Contributing Factors<\/li>\n<li>Heat Injury &amp; Illness<\/li>\n<li>Types of Injuries &amp; Illnesses<\/li>\n<li>Heat Fatigue, Rash, Cramps, Syncope, Exhaustion &amp; Stroke<\/li>\n<li>Rhabdomyolysis<\/li>\n<li>Heat Advisories &amp; Warnings<\/li>\n<li>Engineering Controls<\/li>\n<li>Administrative Controls<\/li>\n<li>Safe Work Practices<\/li>\n<li>PPE &amp; CPC<\/li>\n<li>Cold Is a Hazard<\/li>\n<li>And more<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><b>After finishing the HAZWOPER: Temperature Extremes course, learners will be able to:<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Recognize the dangers of working in hot temperatures and identify factors that contribute to heat stress<\/li>\n<li>Identify heat-related disorders, their signs and symptoms, and how to respond when they manifest<\/li>\n<li>Enumerate measures to prevent heat injury &amp; illness, including engineering controls, administrative controls, safe work practices, and special considerations for PPE use<\/li>\n<li>Understand the causes of cold stress, contributing factors, and body heat loss mechanisms<\/li>\n<li>Identify cold-related disorders, their signs and symptoms, and appropriate responses<\/li>\n<li>Enumerate measures to prevent cold-related injury &amp; illness, including preparation for cold weather, use of engineering controls, administrative controls, and safe work practices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"title-bar\"><span style=\"font-size: 18.0px;float: none\"><b>ONLINE COURSE DURATION<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"ecommerceDescHeaderBar\" style=\"font-size: 14.0px\" \/>\n<p style=\"font-size: 14.0px\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 14.0px\">Roughly 50 minutes<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 14.0px\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"title-bar\"><span style=\"font-size: 18.0px;float: none\"><b>PASS MARK<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"font-size: 14.0px\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 14.0px\">Testing conducted throughout this online course is designed to reinforce the information presented. A mark of 80% must be achieved in order to receive a certificate of completion.
