COMPONENTS OF THE ELECTRICAL SAFETY TRAINING PROGRAM<\/b><\/b><\/p>\n

The Electrical Safety Training Program has been revised to comply with the current guidelines and norms, including the recently amended CSA Z462 – Workplace Electrical Safety and the NFPA 70E – Electrical Safety in the Workplace. <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

ARC FLASH AWARENESS <\/span><\/b><\/b><\/p>\n

This web-based course offers an overview of the fundamentals of arc flash hazard awareness. Subjects covered in this course include:<\/span><\/p>\n

  • Definition of an arc flash<\/li>\n
  • Causes of an arc flash<\/li>\n
  • Factors that contribute to arc flash and its effects<\/li>\n
  • Arc flash and the worker, and<\/li>\n
  • Methods of personal protection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    ELECTRICAL SAFETY TRAINING <\/span><\/b><\/b><\/p>\n

    This detailed online course aims to ensure that electrical workers are aware of the dangers associated with electricity and know how to avoid them. Subjects covered in the Electrical Safety Training Program include:<\/span><\/p>\n

    • Energy flow and barriers<\/li>\n
    • Inductions<\/li>\n
    • Step and touch potential<\/li>\n
    • Electricity’s interaction with the human body<\/li>\n
    • Electrical shock and arc flash hazards<\/li>\n
    • Safety training for the qualified electrical worker<\/li>\n
    • Personal protective equipment<\/li>\n
    • Safe work procedures, and<\/li>\n
    • Corded electrical equipment, extensions cords, ground fault circuit interrupters, and circuit protection devices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      IDENTIFYING HAZARDS AND ASSESSING RISKS <\/span><\/b><\/b><\/p>\n

      This comprehensive course provides information that can ensure that a worker is aware of the hazards and risks associated with the task and how barriers can be effectively used to reduce the risk of injury. Subjects covered in this course include:<\/span><\/p>\n

      • Hazard identification and risk assessment<\/li>\n
      • Responsibilities and regulations<\/li>\n
      • Hazards associated with the use of electricity<\/li>\n
      • Initial risk estimation<\/li>\n
      • Parameters used in risk assessment<\/li>\n
      • Risk reduction strategies<\/li>\n
      • Risk evaluation, and<\/li>\n
      • Risk reduction verification<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Testing conducted throughout each of the three online courses in this suite is designed to reinforce the information presented. A score of 80% must be achieved in order to receive a certificate of completion. Participants are able to retake each course twice if the pass mark is not achieved. Supplemental materials necessary to complete each course can be accessed online.<\/p>\n

        CERTIFICATION OF COMPLETION<\/b><\/span> <\/div>\n

        Upon successful completion of each online course, a certificate of completion will be available for download and printing.<\/p>\n

        CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS (CEU)<\/b><\/b><\/span> <\/div>\n

        <\/p>\n

        This course qualifies for Continuing Education Credits from the Engineering Institute of Canada.<\/p>\n

        The Engineering Institute of Canada supports continued education for all engineers by recognizing training providers that offer quality courses for professional development.<\/p>\n

        Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are one way the Engineering Institute of Canada helps to support professional development. CEUs are recognized by the engineering community at large as providing clear evidence of continued learning in the engineering field.<\/p>\n

        One CEU is defined as “ten hours of participation in a continuing education program organized in compliance with prescribed standards under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction”.<\/p>\n
