In practice, culture is shaped by what people do day to day, and by the everyday behaviours that either reinforce safe work or quietly work against it. In this session, John Hudson, P.Eng., CEO of DETAC, will share the 4 STEPS/4 SKILLS® framework he created to help organizations build safer workplaces. He’ll show how a small set of behaviours, and a clear understanding of the influences behind them, can strengthen safety performance across the organization without adding programs or paperwork. After taking over DETAC in 2011 with a goal of simplifying safety training, he created the 4 STEPS/4 SKILLS® approach, a practical method for making safety procedures easy for everyone in an organization to understand and apply. Much of his work centres on a small set of key behaviours that drive safety excellence, which is the focus of this session. Testimonial “Allan spoke with passion, enthusiasm and knowledge on the subject of effective safety communication. His unique speaking style combines humour, real life experiences and an obvious depth of knowledge about life as a safety professional. I would highly recommend attending one of Allan’s presentations.” Rob Watt HSE Manager, Secure Energy Services Why This Matters Many safety programs already have the policies, the documentation, and the training in place. What often separates a strong safety culture from a struggling one is not more paperwork, but the behaviours that happen every day on the floor. When the right behaviours are understood and reinforced, safety performance tends to follow. When they are left to chance, even well-resourced programs can stall. Join this practical, experience-driven session designed to help safety leaders build culture through behaviour, not bureaucracy. Reserve Your Spot"}
